Ever since their humble beginnings at Tufts University in 1991, Guster has straddled the line between cult favorite and pop mainstream. They initially developed an underground following for their humor, unique jangle sound and creative live performances, selling out New York's fabled Radio City Music Hall one year and performing with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall the next. The band broke into the musical mainstream in 1999 with its third studio album "Lost and Gone Forever" when the single "Fa Fa" made it onto the Adult Top 40. Their follow-up, "Keep It Together," also enjoyed moderate success, charting two singles, and Guster's music has also been featured on a number of television shows and movies, including "Satellite", "Disturbia", "Wedding Crashers", "Life as a House" and "The OC." Their lastest release, "Ganging Up on the Sun," peaked at 25 on the Billboard 200, and has been hailed as their most confident and superlative work to date. On "Ganging Up" Guster is joined by Joe Pisapia, a Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist who has performed with them live, and joined full-time for the new album. Pisapia added texture to the bands sound by playing banjo, dulcimer, trumpet and lap steel guitar, and also served as producer for half the tracks, including the seven-minute centerpiece "Ruby Falls," a celestial epic that features an uncharacteristic muted trumpet in the outro. According to founding member Brian Rosenworcel, "I just love that our band feels unpredictable right now. I love that no one knows what to expect from us."
